What is it?
Aluminium Foil is a thin sheet of rolled aluminium that can be used to wrap and store food, as insulation and in heat exchangers. It's familiar with most people for it's many kitchen uses; wrap food for cooking, to retain their moisture, for grilling and for covering foods going into the refrigerator or freezer. It's also the for keeping moisture out and juices in. One of the popular uses for it is to put around the crust of a baking pie so the crust does not burn as the pie cooks. The foil varies from a minimum of thickness of about 0.00017 in to a maximum of about 0.0059 in. One of the most important characteristics of aluminium foil is it's impermeability to water vapour and gases. It's used to manufacture thermal insulation for the contraction industry, fin stock for air conditioners, insulation for storage tanks, containers and more. Some of it's attributes are: non-toxicity, strength and durability, temperature resistance and flexibility. The manufacturing process of the foil is extracting pure aluminium from bauxite entails too processes. First, the ore is refined to eliminate impurities such as iron oxide, titania, silica and water. Then, the resultant aluminium oxide is smelted to produces pure aluminium. Afterwards, the aluminium is rolled to produce foil.
